America’s Urban Cities are Growing Faster than the Suburbs


For the first time since 1920, America’s Urban cities are growing faster than the Suburbs.  This great article by Veterans United points out the top 3 reasons that suburban life has been pushed off its throne by a high preference for city living.  It contributes this trend to the Deindustrialization of Central Cities, High gas prices, and Changing values and preference.

U.S. Census Data shows that in 33 of America’s 51 largest cities, city center grew faster than suburbs in 2011.  Overall, the population of city centers grew by 1.1 percent in 2011, while the surrounding suburbs grew by only 0.9 percent.   Yay for Urbanism!
